friends,
we have a new problem coming up. and that is renewal of the MBBS registration - every 5 years.
the TCMC has notified that all of us should submit application for renewal of registration in the first half of december2009. we should also submit certificate copies of CME's attended (min 30 hours of TCMC/IMC accredited CME hours in the last 5 years).
but the problem is that we have only two months left and CME's are few and credit hours are few.
dont know what happens to all batchmates who are outside the country?

for detailed information, please check the TCMC website :http://www.medicalcouncil.kerala.gov.in/

the news is already come in newspapers also.
please post your comments and plans to overcome this problem.

Thanks Binoy for pointing this out.
The direct link to the information page is
http://www.medicalcouncil.kerala.gov.in/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8&Itemid=8
They require certificates of attending 30 hours of CME programme, new application, fees. We need to surrender the original registration certificate too.
There is no mention about what would happen if a doctor fails to submit the documents in time. Neither do they mention about doctors practicing in other states or countries.

Anybody with more information, please do update

hi friends. i heard it is essential for practising doctors. binoy & others around, we are holding a big conference in clinical biochemistry in aims from 3rd - 7th november with 9 MCI credit hours in all. there are 1200 delegates already and about 75 lectures with 30 overseas speakers. the session on 3rd may be a bit boring with pure biochemistry intended for msc and md biochemistry students, but cme on 4th and main program from 5th - 7th should be very exciting with a blend of clinical biochemistry and pure research. these days alone will fetch 7 credit hrs. all are welcome if interested. you can contact me or visit the website www.acbicon2009.com for details.

what i have heard from the ima officials is that this year tcmc may not be very strict about the cme hours.we may get away by submitting the certifcates of the cmes attended in the last 5 years even if they are not approved by tcmc

no rajesh, that may not be true. actually all details are in the website.
for the first time we may be able to submit all the certificates we have accumulated in the past 12years, with or without accreditation(not more than10 certificates). but not sure whether they will accept it.
another point is that we have to submit our original registration certificate; and they will give us new high security holographic certificate. But they may add all new clauses on it; it may even be temporary with a validity period mentioned.
they may even say you have to do rural service for some time during the next renewal!. so giving back the old certificate would be hara kiri!.
why dont we act legally and get a stay or something on the order for atleast a year so that we can accumulate credit points and find solution of not giving the old certificate.
another fact is it is easy to make permanent registration renewal in other states like maharastra & tamilnadu, it can be achieved by paying money. anyway with that permanent registration also you can practice in any state of india.
what happens to all those who are outside the country, when they return to india their MBBS registration is not valid?
the picture is still not clear; i think i will wait for an year before applying, fine is only Rs.100.

friends,
i attended a cme at aluva today. it was conducted by the IMA. i was surprised to see lot of old doctors for it. looks like everyone is afraid of the renewal.
but i am surprised at the attitude of the IMA. I came to know that there are CME's conducted by the IMA's at kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha next sunday.
i thought IMA was an organisation which was formed to help the doctors. but instead in these times of crisis what is it doing; it is trying to cash in on the acute problem by conducting CME's to make money (Each CME costs Rs400-500 for a one day event and the food and ambience is below average) clearly the IMA's are only interested in making money instead of helping. i thought the IMA would unite and tell the TCMC that everyone is not prepared and we require more time. but instead it hands joined hands with TCMC. IMA has not made any statement against the rule; not even the fact that we have to give back our original registration certificates.
Clearly we have an enemy within.
any way i have not joined the IMA so far!
by the way does anyone know Sajeen Ragh's whereabouts? his contact number?

benoy dont worry about giving back the original registration certificate.they are not going to send us for rural service after all these years. ima has infact had many discussions with the government on this and that is why it is not very compulsory that you should have 30 hrs of cme accredited by tcmc atleast for this year.i feeel that it is a positive move from tcmc to see that more people attend more cmes to update their knowledge.even if the worst of your dreams come true. you are not alone. paying afine of hundred rs may be a small thing. but if you have to face some litigation during the same period you may end up paying more just becuse you are not registered .ima contrary to your notion is infact a doctor friendly organisation. and has always be in the forefront to raise the issues related to the doctors.

As per the last report it has been stayed and there was a news in the Hindu to that effect. There is a link ...http://www.thehindu.com/2009/11/04/stor ... 230400.htm. This was in early November. I don't know if there has been any progress after that.
